*** SOLD OUT AND CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE *** CARROLL SHELBY'S 1965 WORLD CHAMPIONS Introduction by Carroll Shelby
This book is about the team effort that built a car that could challenge and beat the world's best GT cars on their home soil. We had a hell of a lot of problems with the Cobra in the beginning but thanks to Phil Remington, we made the cars workable and reliable. One problem that we couldn't cure, however, was the terrible aerodynamics of the AC body. That's why the Daytona Coupe idea was born. As far as the Daytona Coupe is concerned, if it hadn't been for people like Phil Remington, Al Dowd, Pete Brock, John Ohlsen, Ken Miles, Donn Allen, John Collins and all the rest of the dedicated people who were involved with that project, we never would have made it to the first race at Daytona in February 1964. We built that car from scratch, in less than 90 days, a feat that could never be accomplished today even with all of the computerized equiptment. I would like to thank Cobra collector and book publisher George Stauffer who thought up the idea for this book and had the insight to bring Pete and Dave together as the main contributers for this book. George owns some significant Cobras and Ford GTs that we were involved with and he has always felt that the full story of the Daytona Coupes has never been told properly in print. He endured long delays but I think the end result, from what I've seen, will be worth it. Pete's words and Dave's photos and captions tell the coupe's story as only insiders can tell this story. With love, Carroll Shelby NOTE: (This excerpt has been shortend from its original version, available only in the text.)
